Build your own bedside table - instructions and creative ideas

There is always something new and beautiful that you can create with your own hands for the home. However, it is even more advantageous if it can not only be used purely for decorative purposes, but can also be used appropriately. Since we are not professional craftsmen, this should be as easy and smooth as possible. With this in mind, we selected the next project for creative minds -  build your own bedside table .

A bedside table does not necessarily have four legs and is not necessarily on the floor. It could also be attached to the ceiling and hang casually next to the bed. Of course, this is not as resilient as the conventional one, but can withstand water glass and 3-4 books . Its durability depends on the attachment to the ceiling.

There are a few things you should consider when choosing materials:

Larger plates or wooden disks with a larger diameter provide more storage spaceaccordingly, the cord or rope should be selectedthe drill should be matched to the diameter of the cordthe hook and the dowels should be suitable for mounting on the ceiling and should be able to hold a minimum weight of around 10-15 without problems

First the board or wooden disc is carefully sanded. If desired, you can oil the surface or treat with glaze. The wood can also be easily colored. Use water-based paints that are not harmful to your health and the environment. As a second step, holes are drilled in the plate so that it can be attached later. Use a triangle to mark three points with the same distance between them. From a static point of view, the three points guarantee a stable hold, although only two of them are sufficient.

Drill the holes a little larger than the diameter of the cord itself. You can determine the exact length of the cord if you consider how high the bedside table should end up hanging. The height of the conventional bedside table varies depending on the bed design, but is usually between 40 and 60 cm, depending on whether you prefer it to be low or slightly higher. Then calculate the length of the cord if you subtract 40, 50 or 60cm from the room height and take three times. Leave a few more centimeters for tying and tying. 6 meters of 1.5-2cm thick rope should be enough. The line should run  smoothly through the holes. A toothpick or other sharp stick will probably help. Tie a knot at the bottom.

Now you should attach the hook to the ceiling. Determine exactly the desired position, mark it and make the drill hole with a concrete drill and cordless hammer. Insert the dowel and then the heel. Then the finished bedside table construction can be attached to the ceiling.

The same idea for self-made bedside tables can be implemented very creatively in connection with the rest of the interior. For a vintage style bedroom, it would be appropriate to use a wooden panel with a used look. Paint the wood in the same shade as the wooden bed so that the two stand well together.

For the modern, rather simple bedroom, choose a rectangular wooden board that you have painted in white beforehand or choose the material very bright. We are happy to find new uses for a used chair top. You can replace the conventional rope with one made of steel. It is particularly stable and you can find a large selection of it in the hardware store.

If you have some old zinc trays in the attic or come across them at the flea market, don't leave them aside. The silver surface fits wonderfully with the romantic style of living and is suitable for a harmonious decoration. Attach the trays to the ceiling with rope or string and hooks.

Use metal baskets decoratively - as hanging bedside tables

The firewood for the fireplace had previously been stored in metal baskets and thus transported to the room. Which are very rare to find today, but once cleaned and sanded if necessary, they regain their appearance. A great idea is to use these baskets in the home as decoration. Attached upside down and hanging, they can be wonderfully placed as decorative, but also practical tables next to the bed.

The metal basket due to its braided structure can be hung in the surface without drilling. The cord is knotted stably and brought into the correct position.
