Decorative table: how to choose and where to put?

Today we cannot imagine our life, our apartments and offices unfurnished. Each house has tables, sofas, wardrobes and other interior items. They allow us to sleep comfortably and eat, work and store things. In addition to its functionality, furniture also has an aesthetic function, and therefore, furniture is very important in creating harmonious and stylish interiors. Organically selected and properly arranged furniture creates a convenient, functional space for us, makes us feel comfortable and sincere. Accent furniture also plays an equally important role, designed primarily to decorate the room, to give it an individual, complete image.

Attention to the table!
Decorative table for home - one of the most affordable and effective tools to create a pleasant, cozy atmosphere. He accentuates the gaze of anyone who enters the room, and as if inviting the hosts and guests to sit comfortably in soft chairs, drink a cup of fragrant tea, and spend a pleasant evening with a soulful conversation. On such a table you can put a beautiful vase , figurine or table clock. There is also a place for fresh newspapers and magazines. And fans of board games will appreciate the compactness and convenience of this versatile interior element.

For many centuries, this piece of furniture was an indispensable attribute of the furnishings of old mansions and palaces: elegant tables of various shapes and sizes were arranged along the walls in long corridors, in boudoirs and even in halls for ceremonial receptions. Cabinet makers made them from precious woods, using sophisticated carving techniques, giving perfect shape to countertops and curved legs.

Quality mark
Modern accent tables for decor amaze with a variety of forms and styles. Today they are made from a variety of materials: from traditional wood to plastic. In any case, when choosing a table, you should pay close attention to the quality of the product.

Wooden legs and countertops should be even and smooth, without cracks, chips and knots, have reliable fastenings that exclude free movement and staggering of parts. The best varieties of furniture wood are oak, ash and beech. Furniture from other tree species requires a multilayer protective lacquer coating.

Decorative tables made of metal , it would seem, are very durable and reliable. But, unfortunately, unscrupulous manufacturers often use too thin metal or cheap alloys, save on protective materials. It is better to opt for wrought iron tables coated with special varnish, or chrome products with a double layer of spraying. The legs of such tables should be “shod” in special protective caps that protect the floor from damage.

Glass countertops can be completely transparent, tinted or matte. On the surface, scratches and chips are not allowed, the glass itself should be sufficiently thick, at least 0.7 cm, and without internal voids or bubbles. It is better to choose products from tempered glass, but in any case you need to remember that sudden changes in temperature are dangerous for this material and can lead to cracking or complete destruction. Plates with hot dishes must be placed on special stands. Decorative glass tables require careful handling. A heavy object accidentally dropped can destroy this fragile beauty in an instant.

As for polymeric materials, modern plastic can very reliably imitate almost any natural materials: stone, metal, glass and even wood. And when choosing a table made of plastic, it is important to be guided not only by its external attractiveness, but also by the quality of the material. It must be remembered that cheap plastic is able to emit substances harmful to health into the surrounding atmosphere, therefore the sale of decorative tables made of plastic should be accompanied by certificates of environmental safety of the product.

Functions and Layout
And according to their priority purpose, these pieces of furniture also differ:

A popular and indispensable coffee table, as a rule, complements the sofa group in the living room or is placed near the armchairs in the office. Squat and compact, it plays a unifying role in a certain area of ??the room.

The decorative table in the hallway most often has a vertical format: a narrow tabletop and high legs. It is convenient to put a handbag, gloves, a fresh press and letters on it; it is perfect for installing a telephone.

A small, but rather high accent table can very well be used as a dining room, especially if the kitchen is small and the family is small. Its design should ideally be elegant and light so as not to clutter up an already narrow space.

A decorative corner table for a vase may not have much functionality, but it allows you to fill in the voids, decorates and smooths straight, strict lines of corners.

It is also difficult to imagine a summer terrace in a country house without a table, because tea drinking in the fresh air has long become a tradition among the lucky owners of summer cottages. And, if space allows, here you can arrange an original and stylish set of two tables, surround them with pouffes or light comfortable chairs. This solution will allow you to quickly change the location of the furniture, move it to the wall or put it in the middle of the room.

A decorative table with glass is perfect for both home and office - a transparent tabletop creates a feeling of lightness, and even a very cramped room visually becomes wider and more spacious.

Elegant console tables are also in no hurry to go down in history: today, on the contrary, they are becoming more and more popular with the fair half of humanity. As a rule, a beautiful mirror is placed above such a table, and ladies have the opportunity to comfortably do their own hairstyles and apply makeup.

Build your own bedside table - instructions and creative ideas

There is always something new and beautiful that you can create with your own hands for the home. However, it is even more advantageous if it can not only be used purely for decorative purposes, but can also be used appropriately. Since we are not professional craftsmen, this should be as easy and smooth as possible. With this in mind, we selected the next project for creative minds -  build your own bedside table .

A bedside table does not necessarily have four legs and is not necessarily on the floor. It could also be attached to the ceiling and hang casually next to the bed. Of course, this is not as resilient as the conventional one, but can withstand water glass and 3-4 books . Its durability depends on the attachment to the ceiling.

There are a few things you should consider when choosing materials:

Larger plates or wooden disks with a larger diameter provide more storage spaceaccordingly, the cord or rope should be selectedthe drill should be matched to the diameter of the cordthe hook and the dowels should be suitable for mounting on the ceiling and should be able to hold a minimum weight of around 10-15 without problems

First the board or wooden disc is carefully sanded. If desired, you can oil the surface or treat with glaze. The wood can also be easily colored. Use water-based paints that are not harmful to your health and the environment. As a second step, holes are drilled in the plate so that it can be attached later. Use a triangle to mark three points with the same distance between them. From a static point of view, the three points guarantee a stable hold, although only two of them are sufficient.

Drill the holes a little larger than the diameter of the cord itself. You can determine the exact length of the cord if you consider how high the bedside table should end up hanging. The height of the conventional bedside table varies depending on the bed design, but is usually between 40 and 60 cm, depending on whether you prefer it to be low or slightly higher. Then calculate the length of the cord if you subtract 40, 50 or 60cm from the room height and take three times. Leave a few more centimeters for tying and tying. 6 meters of 1.5-2cm thick rope should be enough. The line should run  smoothly through the holes. A toothpick or other sharp stick will probably help. Tie a knot at the bottom.

The same idea for self-made bedside tables can be implemented very creatively in connection with the rest of the interior. For a vintage style bedroom, it would be appropriate to use a wooden panel with a used look. Paint the wood in the same shade as the wooden bed so that the two stand well together.

For the modern, rather simple bedroom, choose a rectangular wooden board that you have painted in white beforehand or choose the material very bright. We are happy to find new uses for a used chair top. You can replace the conventional rope with one made of steel. It is particularly stable and you can find a large selection of it in the hardware store.

The firewood for the fireplace had previously been stored in metal baskets and thus transported to the room. Which are very rare to find today, but once cleaned and sanded if necessary, they regain their appearance. A great idea is to use these baskets in the home as decoration. Attached upside down and hanging, they can be wonderfully placed as decorative, but also practical tables next to the bed.
